Oh yes...i bought a metal detector as well. I had read that it is very soothing and provides walks in nature and good exercise. And is always neat to find little hidden treasures. Have never found much worthwhile but is still a very good hobby.

Yep. I've got one and have used it on and off for several years. My kids love it, too. Every once in a while, I'll toss a handful of coins in the yard and tell them they can keep whatever they find. They usually find 'em all. But of course, it's not usually as easy as that. Go to places that have alot of people or have had alot of people like ocean beaches, swimming areas, old school yards, and old home sites. It's an extremely rewarding hobby just to consider the history behind the things you find. I once found a small tractor my Dad used to play with when he was my age in his old back yard.

Will it help depression? Anything that will get your moving will help that. With depression it's too easy just to stop....stop moving, stop wanting, stop dreaming, stop participating in life. So get out there and try this new hobby. Good luck!

You could try it. Try an activity that interests you. Not only would you have something to do and learn from, but doing something helps someone to take their mind off other things and to relax.
