HOW can we when our own President uses divisive means to alienate us from one another and pits us against one another? How can we?

Look around you and see how certain segments of our society are living in substandard housing conditions (the elderly, the retired, the disabled, the poor and the ever-increasing number of homeless) and our elected officials routinely betray our trust in favor of the super rich and powerful?

Tell me, how is this even possible when those we consider spiritual leaders as well as our political leaders lie and cheat and divide us with their political ploys, nonsensical slogans and asinine rhetorical propaganda... demagoguery... and tell us how terrible our fellow AMERICANS are?

YOU really have it wrong to supplicate that WE do what you should be demanding of our elected officials and those who enjoy their roles of spiritual leaders; they are our employees... we PAY their salaries (taxes and offerings) but the moment someone demands accountability and excellence, the lemmings come out of the woodwork in hoards to shout us down.

During 9/11 in NYC, all the people cooperated with neighbors and total strangers... our crime rates went down to nothing... the politicians (Giuliani) took advantage of the situation to start primping and prancing in front of cameras ACTING as though he were TELLING our experienced and well-trained police and firefighters and other rescue personnel what to do... when all he was doing was causing delays in the rescue efforts by asking what they were doing to do so he could he heard and seen saying, "Yes, go ahead!" in front of the cameras (Giuliani prefers that New Yorkers forget how the firefighters had been begging for years for better communication devices and he routinely denied them and rejected the requisitions to replace the faulty, defective communication devices which ultimately caused so many unnecessary deaths). Soon the ghouls followed the example of the opportunistic politicians and started asking for donations they were eagerly keeping themselves! And this rodeo clown in the White House who is funneling fortunes to his cronies who are profiteering in this contrived war... I'm sorry if the truth hurts but such is humanity. In an Utopian society and in a perfect world it would be different... but we must face the awful reality! Before we can stand united and fight our common enemies, we must fight and rid our society of the enemies within...!

It's because we're not a family.

We're many different families, often with very different and conflicting beliefs and histories, that eneded up stuck in the same shelter during a storm.

And many of those people are more concerned with proving their are right and their neighbors are wrong than with working together to solve common problems.

It's been that way throughout history, and sadly was (as a species) have not managed to learn the lesson yet.

Because our less aware "family" members think we started this war. They can't see that what we have done to drive this need to kill us is the fact that we are free. Our liberal socity members are gulity of fueling this war and critise our goverment for protecting it.

Only in a perfect world. It is sad that we can't band together as Americans.

Nope not in my family. Mental abuse and other abuse runs rampant in my family. That is why I was disowned from one side and I defected from the other side. The abuse from them all is something that will stick with me forever.

I'm sorry, but blind allegiance to a "leader" isn't "sticking together" and it sure ain't patriotism.

It's just a recipe for tragedy.
