I have asked the same question.
1. Pres Bush is not a real conservative. Being a Republican does not mean he is a conservative.
2. Same for the Congress that got booted. It starts with the lack of leadership on the president's part.
I am a lifetime registered Republican and I am really ticked at this.

Republicans arent a genre of "big spenders", lets get out facts straight. Most rep. are CONSERVATIVES, meaning they want to CONSERVE their money.
"Bill Clinton vetoed nearly 100 pork spending bill sent to him by the Republican congress"
are you stupid? clinton vetoed much more than 100 spending bills. heres the thing though, pork is always going to exist. when you elect a congressman to senate or HR, dont they offer you promises (such as new schools, community pools, etc) how do you think thats payed for? through PORK. Pork isnt the big loss of money in government, its the lowered taxes and high war costs that are bringing us into a deficit.
anyways, back to the point. Conservatives believe in a smaller government that spends less. Liberal democrats believe in higher taxes for MORE SPENDING. if you want a surpluss, dont ***** when your taxes go up. Unless you want to make the huge sacrifies such as reduced donations/spending on the agencies (aka bureacracy) and higher taxes, dont complain. just keep in mind that republicans ARENT the big spenders, its just the current circumstances of what the USA is going through

Since when is 37 near 100 ??
Clinton vetoed 37 bills during his 8 years in office.
Only about 9 of them were spending bills, and most were in 1995 alone.
Go do somemore reading and research and get back to us.

Because they aren't fiscal conservatives. They pander to the conservative base, but then when it gets to Washington, WOOT, Free Money!!! I just got half of my bonus taken by Uncle Sam to undoubtedly spend on a "Politicians Only" lane somewhere in Alaska.

They refuse to shop at rummage sales and flee markets. They are big spenders when it's not their money they are spending.
