They said that they were ashamed of being from Texas because Bush was also from Texas.

I actually saw the interview and all they said was that they were anti-war (and if others aren't then they need to seriously think what being anti-war actually is) and that they were ashamed that George Bush came from Texas where they are from. They never said they were ashamed of their country, all they ever did was diss the president and quite frankly what's wrong with that. In the UK at the time (and still now) we slag off our prime minister and no-one throws an eppy like many Americans did.
The Dixie Chicks were merely expressing their freedom of speech and some people didn't believe it patriotic. Well quite frankly if they actually saw the interview (which most didn't, they jsut saw the aftermath and quite frankly when their families and friends and carerrs are being threatened because of something small said I don't blame them for getting angry and becoming more vocal on the subject) they would have seen quite clearly that they were actually stating that they were proud of their country but they felt Bush was doing their country a disservice cos he's such an idiot.
They even added their support for their countrymen fighting and said they hoped they would all come home well and safe but of course that wasn't mentioned. The media whipped it all up, that's why I'm glad I saw the interview, so I don't have to make ignorant assumptions based on stupid newspapers.

And I thought Americans had free speech? I think the Dixie Chicks were on the money. George Bush has done nothing to help Americans from an international point of view. A war based on lies and mistruths? The slaughter of thousands of Iraqi civilians, isn't that exactly what Saddam was doing? Sending more soldiers to their deaths than were killed in the Sept 11 attacks? I think it's time for some perspective. The chicks did NOTHING wrong.

They said they were embarrased to be from the same state as the President of the United States and made very derogatory remarks about the war. It did not sit well with many people including those serving in the armed services and they lost a lot of their following. Many said later that it was mostly blamed on member Natalie, but don't know that for sure.

The Dixie Chicks had the audacity to think that they could exercise freedom of speech and get away with it.
Just who do they think they are?
If you want to exercise freedom of speech in America, lock yourself in where you live and not likely but if possible, in a sound-proof room;
THEN say ANYTHING YOU WANT.
But don't you dare think that you can speak freely out in public and especially about King George and think there won't be consequences and repercussions.
The NERVE(!) of some people.

While doing a concert in England, they mentioned that they were embarassed to be from Texas, the same state as George Bush. It was a shot at President Bush's foriegn policies such as the Iraq debacle. Since this statement, those who believe Bush is right have been attacking the Dixie Chicks for their statement.

I not only agree with the Dixie Chicks, but even if I did not, I think one of the great things about America is that we have the freedom to express ourselves even if it goes against the powers that be.

They were extremely brave in criticising their idiot president, and some stupid Americans who seemed to have forgotten that America has a proud tradition of freedom of speech behaved incredibly badly toward them.
Those same Americans should now hold their head in shame, but probably will not because their stupidity knows no limits.

While I don't personally agree with the statements they made about the president and the war, I completely support their right to make them. However, if you are going to make those kind of statements you have to be prepared to face the consequences. I also completely support the radio stations' right to refuse to play their music. That is what freedom is about.

While living in a democracy they dared to think they had freedom to express there own point of view, they were wrong and paid the price for not living in a genuine democracy to not follow the herd is not a crime and they should have been allowed there point of view without receiving death threats

Natalie Maines:

"just so y'all know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas"

As a point of fact, she was wrong; he was born in Connecticut. With any luck, he'll go back there in 2008
