I need to know this since I have to answer the question "Should tailgating be considered as dangerous driving?" I am aware that these numbers are dependent on other factors so I only ask if someone is able to retrieve an average force or acceleration.

I depends on the car. You should look this one up for yourself, rather than have one of us do it.

While you're looking up your answer, consider the time it takes for a person to react. Simple experiments exist to determine that, like dropping a ruler above a person's hands and see how far it drops before they catch it. If you're giving speech, that may be a good opener to get the audience's attention.

If you get information about braking force, remember to get the mass of the car in question, since F= ma. Get the braking force and divide by the mass, and you have your deceleration.

it depends on speed and time. if a car is going 33m/s and hits the brakes and stops in 3 seconds, the acceleration would be -11m/s. from there, if you know the mass, you can find the force needed to stop the car. (the negative is for direction)
