I speak to you of Joy and Sorrow.
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with tears.
And how else can it be ?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter`s oven ?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit the very wood that was hollowed with knives ?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.
Some of you say, ‘Joy is greater than sorrow’, and others say, ‘Nay, sorrow is the greater’.
But I say unto you, they are inseperable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at the board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.
Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and silver, needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall.

So you may experience the feeling of joy. You can only eat and feel full after you've been hungry. You cannot experience the relief after a head-ache unless you have actually suffered one. The sun has to rise in order for it to set. Same principle here.

lol im gonna give you one of the "life is like" quotes just as a heads up.
lifes like a road, theres some potholes that some some people didnt fill in yet. that shouldnt let you be stopped in life and so you keep riding on and never looking back in the rearview mirror.
if that made no sense, good because i had no idea what i just said. sad's an emotion but its something we should go through so we can look back and say we experienced it and lived through it.

So that we can enjoy the feeling of pleasure
Like North and south, good and bad, God and the Devil Positive and Neutral
Life and everything in it is made up of positives and negatives
contentment is the ideal middle ground but is very hard to maintain

Feelings of Sadness and Happiness are another way for us to see our world.
Just like the colors of the rainbow.
Red might be your favorite color but if you could only see red you would be blind.

I wish I knew the answer! I guess it's to make us appreciate the good times more... If life was perfect, maybe it would be boring?! Though I think I could deal with that... lol
