I'm writing a novel and need a good, interesting name for a race of intelligent beings who look somewhat like large chambered nautilus. They living in water filled crystaline cities on an Earth-like world where mammals never rose and sea creatures are the highest form of intelligence. These are minor characters, members of an inter-species alliance between humans, various humanoid and non-humanoid races. I can't think of a good name. Help!

Ah, something that I'm really good at! Try these on for size:

Hemerell (HEM-ur-rell; singular, maybe plural too but plural could be Hemerells or Hemerelli)

Linatari (lin-uh-TAH-ree; definitely plural, maybe singular as well but singular could be Linatar)

Myn (MIN) singular; plural = ha-Myn

Shetannde (shet-TAHN-day; singular and plural)

Tilasra (till-AHZ-rah; singlular and plural)

Hope one of these works for you!

You could call them Suluensians. It's part of the scientific name for nautiloids of the kind you described. You could say that in your story the native name of the aliens is unpronounceable in any Earth language. Therefore some scientist came up with a name based on what they resemble on Earth. Not to mention it has a certain ring to it.

The Wobshlobmcnobs!

Oh sorry, you said to take this seriously... How about 'Nauticans'? Keep it simple.

I still prefer Wobshlobmcnobs myself, but each to their own.
