Your heart skipped a beat?

The day before yesterday actually, on two separate occasions. The first time was when I got home from work and found out my sister-in-law (who's eight months pregnant) had just been in the emergency triage because the doctor's couldn't find her baby's heartbeat for ten minutes. Thankfully, everything turned out okay.
Later that same day she was resting and still very upset so I said I would go out and do the grocery shopping for her. Outside, it was just starting to get dark and it was snowing. I guess I was still feeling a bit discombobulated and distracted, and wasn't paying attention to how slippery the roads had become. When I pulled out there was a car coming up the hill towards me, so I started braking since there wasn't a lot of room on the road. I guess I was going a little too fast for the road conditions and forgot to pump the brakes instead of just stepping on the pedal, so the wheels locked and my van just started sliding down the road like a giant toboggan. That was when my heart skipped another beat, as my van drifted slowly towards the other car. When the other driver saw what was happening she veered towards the right but my front bumper made contact with the back of her car as we passed each other. We both got out afterwards and she inspected her car for damage. Luckily, there wasn't even a scratch (that we could see). I gave her my number and insurance information and told her to call me if she noticed any damage later.
Anyway, despite all my heart skipping everything turned out okay in the end, all things considered.

I think it actually stopped for a full minute, and that was when my teenage daughter and her boyfriend told us she was pregnant.
(She had a miscarrige last week. God always knows best.)
