I keep mine al by itself. I know when you go into a pet store they have a bunch of them in one tank, but that really isn't necessary. They do just fine by themselves, and actually most casual owners only have one at a time. When I worked in a pet store there weren't many people who bought them in pairs.

1 is fine as a pet.

Females can be kept in pairs or groups but pairs or groups of males will fight.

If you want to breed you need 1 male and at least 3 females-any fewer females and he will stress them with demands for sex.

I have just one.

But of you get two make sure they have been in the same tank together if there adults.

You can have just one. They're not really social creatures. They'll tolerate a tankmate but they don't need one.
