I bought an older PUCH 2-cycle mc at an auction. All of the parts are there and there's good compression. Half of the gas tank is for oil and half of the tank for gas, which is rusty inside, so I got it for little money, but I still need to know the best way to take out, get rid-of and maybe even coat the rusty gas tank. Your experience would help. Thank you, rippeyrip@yahoo.com

the best gas tank sealer is Gold Standard by KBS Coatings. Their Cycle tank kit ( 5 gal size sounds right for you) has all the products you need to clean, de-rust & seal your tank permanently. This fuel impervious coating cures rock hard yet will expand & contract with the tank.

Hi,
They make products available on the inernet to slosh the tank and coat the inside but first you need to empty the tank completely. You need to not only arrest the rust, you need to eliminate what is there and that will require an acid wash. This requires something like phosphoric acid. If you do not reduce the oxidation in the tank, even sloshing the tank will still continue the process of rusting under the slosh coating and miss spots due to non-sticking of the polymer. The sloshing must be done to a completely DRY tank.

Here is a link to a thorough routine including cleaning with the acid wash, drying, preping, and curing the polymer coating by manufacturers trade name Kreem:

"Kreem" fuel tank liner is a 3 part process.
An acid etches the rust off.
A base neutralizes the acid.
A liquid epoxy coats the entire fuel tank and dries hard.
If you do use this stuff, install an in-line fuel filter to catch any that chips off.

Try this: www.gastankrenu.com
I used them once to recondition the fuel tank on my 1959 Dodge Coronet. It may be pricey, but you will NOT be disappointed.

remove the gas tank and empty it out, use soap and water in it and let it soak, pour out and repeat until the water is clear or almost clear
