Taxes fall to the middle class. Poor people don't have money, rich people spend theirs creating jobs for the middle class. So the middle class has enough to pay taxes, but doesn't use it in ways that better society.

Yes, we all need to pay taxes as a way to pay for all the nice things that we are privileged to. We have tax brackets, both federal and state which, in my opinion are fair. We need to stop grumbling about paying taxes and be thankful for all of the wonderful things we have. There is a saying "Nothing is Free". I do believe we all have to share in paying for these.

A complex question.
On one hand, why should a rich person be burdened with a higher share of the tax bill?
If I am rich and single, why should I have to pay more taxes so a poor family can send their children to public school on my dollar?
The biggest downfall of a democracy is that it becomes vulnerable when the poor realize they can vote themselves gifts from the treasury (such as welfare and tax breaks). What we need is to provide the poor incentive to work harder, not to continue to feed them when they put themselves into a situation that requires them to count on the government (which, in the end, falls on the taxpayer).
