Take it to a shop. It's not worth saving a few extra dollars to risk your life. Even though the muffler is at the back of the car, having an exhaust leak can allow carbon monoxide in to the passenger compartment of the van. As you know too much carbon monoxide can kill you. I even question some of the bolt on kits a lot of people buy. With out proper gaskets (which some do not come with) you run risks. Just take it to a shop and have it fixed correctly. Do not cut corners on stuff like this.

i own a repair shop, and your better off letting a muffler shop do this ,exhaust work is the one thing you have to have the right tools on ,or you wont do any good at it,and you need it really high in the air to do this also.you can buy the mufflers ,and save a little money this way,but id let someone with a good lift put them on,its much better and easier this way, good luck with it,hope this helps.

Cut the pipe off the inlet/outlet on your old one. Beat your new one on using a rubber hammer and a board if you have to and then secure the muffler in place using some U-Clamps. You should be good to go.
