Culturally, Muslims tend to place a lot of value on modesty. This may require more care on the part of the carer during washing and toileting. Muslim women may be reluctant to be cared for by male carers. They may be unwilling to expose their legs or hair. Hygiene is also very important in Islam. Still water is believed to be unclean, so many Muslims may prefer to wash in a shower or at a sink. Where this is difficult, a jug should be provided so water may be poured over the body. The left hand is considered "dirty" in Muslim culture. It is used for cleansing during toileting. If this is difficult, the client may be unwilling to wipe themselves with their "clean" right hand and will require aid.

For more information on any aspect of the NVQ in Care, see http://www.nvqcareuk.com. This contains specific information on the impact of culture on health and social care.

Good luck

I assume you are not a Muslim or you would already know the answer.I suggest you ask this question of a Muslim pupil at the school or college you are at.I don't fully understand the question the way you have phrased it. I am not a Muslim by the way.
