since evedryone else thinks it is gross, i must answer that i do it all the time! kitties eat out of my cereal bowls, doggies are expert skillet cleaners- sometimes get it so clean i joke about not having to wash them at all- but still do, either by hand or in dishwasher.
I think most people are WAY too worried about germs, actually i think that there are studies that show that small children who are exposed to animals, household dirt, outside pollen etc and not kept in a falsely sanitized environment are actually less prone to develop allergies than the others raised in a super clean environment. Likewise, i think adults that are exposed to more everyday germs are immulogically stronger too- not that eating off a dish that dogs ate off of actually have more germs on it than one that a friend used- actually, othter humans probably harbor more dangerous germs to other humans than my pets do- i dont worry about letting my pets eat off my bowls and i actually share a yogurt with my kitty often.

ewww...i would not let my dog lick the plates i eat off of. I know the dishwashers detergent and hot water would kill the germs, but it still gross. If i have a little bit leftover on my plate, I scrape it into the dogs bowl for him to eat.

I have lt my dog eat off of my plate and then put it in the dishwasher. Most people that have pets have. They have their own dishes for dog food, but i have given them treats many times off of my plate.

My pets all have their own dishes. I have on occasion just put my plate down, and let her eat off it. It doesn't bother me in the least, I just throw it in the dishwasher.

Did your out-of-town guest also put into consideration that they were eating off of the plates used by others in your household?
Sounds like they have issues.

We have different sets of spoons, forks, and even bowls for the dogs! A crappy set for the dogs and a luxury set for us humans!
