Bush is not an idiot. He is a master manipulator who knows exactly what he is doing. And yes, Americans (I am an American) are largely idiots. This is an excellent CD, and I'm convinced it will be seen as historically significant in the future.

The answer is actually both Bush and Kerry.
You had 2 evils duking it out in the election of '04. America really didn't have a choice. Bush was the idiot who doubled on 20 playing blackjack and Kerry was the idiot who just stood there and smiled and let everyone else run the country. And then since America is too narrow-minded to look at third-party candidates they automatically voted on the 2 major parties with Bush getting a second term.
