I was on depo for 13 months. ( aug. 04 - last due oct. 05 didnt get ) Didn't get another shot after we got married because we wanted to start trying for a baby. Well its been 17 months since stopping depo and my periods have somewhat returned. (nov. 06, dec. 06, then 51 days later very end of jan. and nothing since yet ) but very bad cramps this week.. i was just wondering if anyone has had any problems like this after the depo.. and if anyone has gotten preg, and how long it took to get preg. anyones stories would be helpful!

I was on Depo for about 5 years. After I quit getting the shots, I didn't get a period for about a year, and didn't have regular periods for another six months or so. What you're describing sounds pretty normal to me. It's frustrating, I know.
I started charting my basal body temperature somewhere in the middle of all that, and it at least gave me some idea of whether I was ovulating or not -- and I could see by my steady, low temps that I wasn't pregnant when I went months at a time without a period. It's a good tool for trying to conceive anyway, so you might want to try it. www.fertilityplus.org and www.tcoyf.com have good information about how to get started. (And I think tcoyf has some temp charts of post-Depo women you could look at.)

I had a similar experience with Depo. It really messed up my system, although it was nice at the time to not get my period.
Basically, I was told by my OBGYN that Depo is an artificial hormone (like all BC) and when you put a synthetic hormone into your body you will stop producing the real hormone. In my case, I didn't start making progesterone again when I stopped taking the Depo as I should have, so I was still not ovulating. He gave me a script for progesterone (the real stuff this time) and I took it for one cycle and was pregnant within a month. I also had occurrences of ovarian cysts and very painful intercourse (I am not sure if this is connected to the Depo, but it went away and I haven't had a recurrence yet, now seven years later)
Good Luck

We stopped with the depo in May and was pregnant in OCT. I would suggest however that you take folic acid supplements NOW because we had a baby born with cleft lip and palate and there are some studies that link depo with a depletion of folic acid causing these types of defects. Better to be safe than sorry especially if you are actively trying to get pregnant.
