Whether it is a bath sink or a kitchen sink, it will have a pipe drain trap underneath shaped like the letter P (P-trap) or letter S (S-trap) where soap, food and even toothpaste can accumulate and develope bacteria odour which is quite foul, not to mention a threat to healthy living.

You can remove the trap for cleaning if the assembly is according to building code and is not a difficult task. When doing so, be sure to replace all washers in the connections you remove as well as clean the pipe surfaces before re-connecting them. The only tool needed for this is channel-lock pliers able to span three inches.

A quick fix is to pour drain cleaner in the sink(s) as it will kill off the bacteria odour but is not a guarrantee it will clean the drain trap properly as required. Toothpaste, etc., can continue to accumulate until the trap is fully plugged and forcing the pipes to be removed. Too much drain cleaner can eat the metal finish of the drain ring in the sink also.

For a quick fix, I would recommend pouring a glass of bleach into the sink before going to bed. In the morning, run hot water in the sink for a minute or so and the odour will be gone.

DO NOT..........I repeat.........DO NOT....... MIX BLEACH WITH DRAIN CLEANERS OF ANY KIND AS A POISONOUS VAPOR WILL DEVELOPE ALMOST INSTANTLY...!

The easy solution is to take the plumbing aloose in the sink and clean it out. All p traps get dirty over time. It could also be grime attached to the closure mechanism itself. The last thing would be for the city to clean out the sewer near your home but this is usually not needed as the problem is right in your sink.

Do you have nicely water? now and back your water will scent like that because of the sulfur content cloth of the water. if so, you will possibly be able to need a water softener and making use of rust remover pellets interior the softener additionally facilitates. in case you dont have nicely water then ensure you plunge your sink actual nicely first of all as nutrients could be caught in there. Run your rubbish disposal every day with quite some chilly water (breaks up grease into chunks so it is going to flush away). i purchase the product talked approximately as Disposer Care (close to dish deterg in shop). it rather is a dry packet this is lemon scented and foams and it cleans your drain up into the two aspects of the sink so the froth expands into each and every corner and cranny. It even cleans the GD blades. Even my worst sink smells have long gone away jointly as doing those issues. make certain as area of your maintenance cleansing you wash the black splash look after protector that covers your GB on the best and bottome aspects as nutrients splatters up onto the backside of this too. attempt to no longer placed stuff like poultry skins in there because of the fact the disposer has a confusing time with the style of texture. additionally, make certain that the plug sor your sink is wiped clean oftern (back good and backside) final, a narrow dryer style lint brush is mind-blowing to scrub the non disposer factor of your sink. it permit you to get down there a sprint to scrub the slime that often collects. Sorry it is goodbye yet i had to objective to cover all bases on your source of smell. Please ensure you be secure and characteristic it grew to become off until now you do any paintings on it (mind-blowing disclaimer there sturdy success to you and that i'm hoping this facilitates~

Besides the other answers of pouring something down. I was wondering if you even have a "P" or "S" trap under your sink. If you don't you will need to install one (it stops the sewer gases from comming up the pipes). If you do have one then just pour something down there to give it a nice smell, as the others suggested.
