The democrats are trying to show that this president has had a track record of bending the law and manipulating the law by illegally surrounding himself with only people that will do the same. It's just another step towards impeachment.

Firing all federal appointees upon taking office is common practice, especailly where the other party had just been in for 12 years.

Firing eight specific individuals in the middle of a term is almost unheard of. This issue isn't the fact that prosecutors were fired.

It's potentially WHY they were fired. US Attorneys, and the Department of Justice in general, is supposed to be non-political and serving only the interests of justice by prosecuting people who break the law.

The accusation with these 8 is that they were fired because they refused to function as political hatchets, and were instead insisting on doing their job fairly and in a non-partisan way. Which would make their firing a violation of the ethical standards required for attorneys and DOJ officers.

It is not unusual for an incoming president to fire the federal prosecutors and put in their own party's people - during the FIRST term of office. These are political appointments, after all.

What is going on here is: He is firing near the end of his second term which is very unusual, and, he is permitting it because the prosecutors won't do WHAT THEY ARE TOLD. Bush doesn't like anyone who won't fall into his line of lies, corruption and deceit. There are emails (many read this morning on several news shows) threatening these prosecutors because they wouldn't do what Gonzales, Cheney and Bush want them to do. Senator Leahy said subpeonas are going out this week to Rove, Gonzales and others to come before them and explain themselves.

Mr. Bush and his administration is the most corrupt in history - worse than Nixon.... He is a spoiled brat tyrant and should be tried for crimes against humanity.

Politics AND Gonzales lied to Congress about the reasons!

It is a shame that the highest ranking law enforcement officer (Attorney General) lies to Congress.

He should be fired!

If a police lied to Congress or his boss, he would be fired in a minute!

Gonzales has no creditablity at all now. The only reason he got the job was because he was a political hack with the additional qualification of being the grandson of illegal aliens.

I guess the acorn does not fall far from the tree!
