"Vilamoura is due east of Albufeira. Driving into the town we passed acres of golf resorts, which sport is the most popular in all of the Algarve. The heart of Vilamoura is its marina. It is a visual beauty, such that we were immediately inspired to live on its shores. There are 1300 moorings surrounded by attractive hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes, residences and a yacht club. The sun shone brightly on the pleasure craft of all sizes that decorated the waters. Walking to the marina we passed magnificent accommodations, beaches and tennis courts. Without a doubt this is the fashionable leisure center of the Algarve."

Vilamoura has the number one marina in the Algarve: great boats and high boat fees!
The place has a certain atmosphere that comes with having money to spend on good food, good hotels and expensive boats!
It’s great to walk around there: a huge variety of restaurants all around the marina. To have a meal or a drink is a great way to spend time!
(Luis Figo has a restaurant/bar which you can visit just to look at the photos of footballers and celebrities)

From the marina you can go on boat excursions in the hope of finding dolphins.

As you turn the corner from the marina you find yourself in a great looking beach with lovely sand and lots of space. Very nice!

Vilamoura is surrounded by beautiful golf courses. They look really expensive to maintain and must consume huge amounts of water!! The place is great for cycling and jogging.

When I went last Summer it was pain getting there and leaving… because of the long traffic queues!

As has been said if you have the money you can go to Quinta do Lago and mix with the very affluent. If you have taste and less money you can go to a fun place that is not pretentious but has the holiday/relax atmosphere that is the hallmark of the Algarve: Praia da Rocha in Portimão.

Vilamoura is very nice if you like golf, water sports and walking around a typical tourist overpriced area. In my opinion there are better areas along the Algarve if you like nature, culture or even resorts where everything is close by. I don't know what you like but vilamoura attracts people often because rich and famous people are often spotted but if that's what your looking for then Quinta do lago or vale do lobo is definitely the place to be, but be warned the prices seriously reflect this. Albufeira is good for club 18 to 30 type holidays, tavira and faro are great for bird watchers, Alvor, carveiro and Praia da Rocha are great for beaches, and the west coast is great for surfing. All In all each resort is fairly similar in the summer months for general holiday atmosphere.

I'm told it is very nice - popular for people on golfing holidays but I went on a boat trip from there so don't be put off by the golf thing if you aren't interested in golf. There's lots more to see and do in the area.
