Here's another idea that has come to mind over the past few years. How would y'all feel if the NHL required all players to wear the clear shields on their helmets? Now I fully understand that some people don't like them, saying it hurts their field of view and all that, but I think that's a very small price to pay in the name of safety. I've seen some players get seriously hurt by pucks or sticks when they could have been stopped or atleast slowed down to the point where it would be a less serious injury by a shield. Again I ask, what do y'all think?

I think they're doing that, accually, just like they did with the helmet in the first place. However, they would never require anything outright, they would grandfather in people who never used them before, but require them of all new players.

Keep in mind that a lot of leagues require the full cage...

Well why dont you just put a cage on them as well like all minor hockey leagues have. They are all grown mature men that have been playing the game long enough to know what could happen to them if they dont wear atleast a visor. Im sure sooner or later as they did with helmets back in the day they will make any oncoming players in the NHL wear them but I think its rediculous. Same goes with minor leagues, the cages actually give more injuries than I would recieve with a visor, trust me I know playing 4 years of juniors, much more respect is given when you have a visor and the hands and sticks stay down.

they'll be doing that soon. the majority of the players are now wearing the sheild. only the older players that are not used to playing with a cage or a sheild are sticking to just a helmet. but they get injured and then they start wearing a sheild. johnny madden for example. the rookies and sophmores are wearing them because they're used to it from college and before.

It will be done, only a matter of time. All AHL players had to wear them this year. That is the start of everything ... test it in the AHL within two to three years it will be implemented in the NHL.
