Metals curlers work fast and effect but can easily give you a "crimped" look, not a smooth curl. And it is often hard to fit your eyelashes all perfectly inside.

Most heated eyelash curlers are plastic and you inserted your lashes inside like a regular metal one. HOWEVER ~ I suggest a different kind of heated curler. Japanese eyelash curlers come in a pencil like shape, with a comb like end that is heated. You can safely use this even after you apply mascara, just brush it through your lashes upward. It may take some practice but works AWESOME! Check out some pics on eBay --> heated eyelash curler

I saw the heat eye lash curlers for the first time about 2 years ago. The idea sounded great, so I spent the $15 and purchased it. The first time I used it I realized it was going to be more trouble than I wanted to go through to curl my eye lashes. 3-4 minutes to get the curler heated enough so the curling edges were ready. It took way longer in the caupture and squeeze department than the metal ones. And I got no where near the curl as with the metal ones.
I thought perhaps it was the newness of it all and that I just needed practice. 2 weeks later, when there was still hardly any curl, hardly any lastingness and dead batteries, I said goodbye to what obviously is a bad idea. I sell skin care & cosmetics. I always tell my clients that spending the $4-5 dollars on an eyelash curler will make such a different in the look of their eys. And I ALWAYS tell them not to waste their money on the heated ones.

I personally find I always get a better grip with metal curlers. Heating your metal curlers with a hair dryer before curling can be helpful.

im going to say heated. although metal may do the trick for you, it doesnt give as even a curl to your eyelash, more of a bend. for some people (including me) metal curlers dont work, they just add a kink to your eyelashes, very slight, and it looks terrible. so i realy can only use the heated ones
hope this is helpful

Definitely metal. Heat could burn your eyelashes or eyelid. It happened to my friend.

Metal.Just put it under a hair dryer for a few seconds if you want it slightly heated. Safer too... Won't have to go through the risk of burning yourself!
