First of all, just estimate the answer, you know it's going to be 3 point something because 3 x 3 is 9 (too small) and 3 x 4 is 12 (too large). So the answer must be between 3 and 4.

Dividing 3 into 11 gives you 3 [which you put before the decimal point] and 2 over. Make that 20 and divide that by 3 and you get 6, but there's 2 over again. Make that 20 and divide by 3 again, it's 6. And so on, and on and on....

So your answer is 3.666 recurring. If you wish you could round this up to 3.667

To check you are correct, try multiplying 3 x 3.667 and it will be just over 11.

What, like long division? That's pretty hard to show here, but I'll give it a try. The way to get a decimal result from long division is to extend the last remainder by adding arbitrarily many zeroes after the decimal point to continue the calculation.

3 | 11 gives you a 3 over the ones digit. 3*3 subtracted from 11 is 11 - 9 = 2. Now, place the decimal point and add a zero. Now you have 3 | 20, which gives you a 6 over the tenths place. Subtract 3*6 to get 20 - 18 = 2. It's a 2 again, so you have a repeating decimal. The answer is therefore 3.666...

I guess your asking to get the fraction reduced.

set up like bracket division; 11 divided by 3
3 goes into 11 3 times leaving a remainder of 2
so 11/3= 3 2/3
