3rd grade - keep it simple! One concept is best.

CT has glacial features so you could go find them and film them. Probably takes assistance from local college - CCSU in New Britian or UCONN. Also web search - glacial features of Connecticut.

Also Conn Valley is graben feature that separates the older granite features of east conn from metamorphics of west conn. Drive the e-w- highway and film the rock changes as you cross the boundaries. You can see them in the roadcuts. Use topographic and geologic maps for reference. Ct geological survey.

Even simpler, film structural features - roadcuts again. Look for flat lying rocks, titled rocks, and swirly rocks. Each type represents a different environment. Flat layers are usually undisturbed sedimentary rocks. Titled rocks can be anything, but represent uplift or breaking of rocks (why?). Swirly rocks usually represent metamorphism. Rocks with crystals like granite are usually igneous.

Go around town. or the local area and identify rocks and rock types. Look at quarries and outcrops.

If you come across a gravel pit do that too. But don't call it gravel, call it aggregates. Then identify whether it is glacial aggregate or beach aggregate, The latter having stones that are rounded and smooth. Glacial aggregates will be smoothed but have more angles in the stone.

Also look for moraines from the glaciers. And get movies of that.

Also if you are near a lake or the ocean look for terraces which indicate land risings or "glacial rebound"
