well, what do 3,9,27, _ have to do with each other? that's the next number after five.
then you have 7,8: 5,_? well what do you think follows looking at the first two?
then go back to the 3,9,27,_,_, that's the third missing number.
I think this is right, but i could be way off.

The first, third and fifth numbers are exponential progressions of the first number but I'm not seeing a pattern in the even numbers. Good luck.
