Please include many details. I had to stop watching when 1900's friend is looking in their old bedroom. What happens from there?

1900 is still hiding in the derelict ship, which is about to be blown up. So when his friend asks him why he does not want to leave the ship, if he ever stepped on land. 1900 tells him of the time when he is about to step off at New York but sees the big city and buildings and loses his nerve. He feels that his world is in the ship where he has lived his entire life and would be lost in the city. So in the same way he can't leave even when the ship is going to be blown up.
Then his friend leaves and tells the dock authorities that there is no one on board. In the last scene they show 1900 sitting on the engine room floor. There is this creaking and then a huge blast and the ship is blown up.
Great movie.
