i'm having this re-occuring dream about this...thing... happening. does it mean it's going to happen, or that i want it to happen.. or does it even mean a n y t h i n g??

It really depends upon what the "thing" is. And, no, it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to happen... the "thing" can depict something that is already going on with you. But, yes, it can represent something that will happen in the future. Just keep in mind that they're often symbolic in nature and not quite literal.
Dreams are an outlet for your subconcious and will reflect not only what is coming up, but things that are already happening in your life.
I've included a decent link for you. It's also a neat idea to buy a dream dictionary and keep a written journal of your dreams. You can write anything in there that you remember and learn which of your dreams are prophetic and which are just your mind venting.

wtf? How could it possibly? Because your brain is being affected by temporal waves from the future? Get real. Dreams are just dreams.

A dream recurs if you don't get the message of its meaning the first time. So it keeps trying to tell you something. Tell us what "this....thing" is, and maybe you'll make some headway. At this point it's just a nameless terror.
