Can someone explain to me how the black, green, red, ect... tomatos differ in growing climates and taste. I live in north texas and would like to grow black ones...maybe purple.
I appreciate any help!

Although, I personally cannot answer your question, I have a friend on Yahoo 360 who grows hundreds of tomatoes by seed, many colors, sizes varieties....even heirlooms. She could and would answer all of your questions. She can even hook you up with the seeds of the colored varieties you mentioned!

There's over 10,000 tomato varieties,

Tomatoes taste better when grown orgaincaly no matter where they are grown

Black Brandywine, Prudence Purple, Black Prince should work
Paul Robeson, a brown, works

The big diffference is that during the summer heat many tomatoes will not pollinate because it's too hot. If you can keep them watered they should recover when it cools down

wow that's a new one on me...black or purple tomatoes. Here in New Jersey we have what many consider the finest tasting ones called Jersey tomatoes.
