The Sega Genesis represented the next step in home console gaming (circa 1990). It was an improvement on the Sega Master System and an upgrade over the 8-bit Nintendo. It's 16 bits of processing power ushered in the Console wars that still rage on today. Nintendo soon followed suit with their 16 -bit Super Nintendo.
The Genesis came with Altered Beast, a simple yet great looking arcade port. The Genesis had great games and later great peripherals like the Sega CD. Sega's controllers were always better than the Nintendo's, and when Mortal Kombat came out, Sega had 'blood mode'!
I wish Sega still made hardware because they were in my opinion innovative and ahead of their time.
