as someone already said, there are loads of Irish Living in England. my parents are Irish.
the Irish like a piss up, and they love a drink for any reason. and the Irish take pride in what their believe in. but as i keep reminding my irish Cousin, St Patrick was not Irish, i believe he came from a weathly Roman Family, just i understand that our St George was Not even English (not too sure what he was)
perhaps another reason, we dont celebrate St Georges day, as its mainly near Easter most of the time. and we do have a bank holiday on the first monday in May, perhaps its time for Tony Blair to change this from May day to 23rd April

Why do the English celebrate St. Patrick's Day? Hey, it's a great excuse to throw a party.

Why not St. George's Day? Who knows? It would certainly be appropriate! You should throw a St. George's Day Party. You may start a tradition.

A lot of this & that Day are popularized to generate more commerce, sales of food, drinks, presents....etc. by merchants, shops, restaurants, bars, advertising.... Most people just take it as an excuse to have fun & indulging themselves. Many take the opportunity also to just keep in touch with others.

I don't, and I think it's ridiculous that English people or anybody who isn't Irish is celebrating it.
