I am in awe here.....Look I am a very libertarian person but I cannot for the life of me figure out why we even have carry on bags anymore! Why don't the airlines just pass a new rule that says every bag needs to be checked and carry on bags will no longer be accepted (with special exemptions for medications, baby things etc of course)....Because jeez, god forbid we Americans arent able to carry all of our stupid s*** on the plane with us....Carry on bags are the single reason that airport security is long, frustrating, and intolerable. Think how efficent the airlines could be!

I am in total agreement with you. Not only does the security line get backed up but boarding and deplaning is so slow. Nothing gets my hackles up more that the dopes who bring everything they own on board, stuff it all in the overhead--it takes forever. Some people can't even lift the darn thing themselves but have to wait for help from another passenger or a flight attendant.
Then the whole thing is reversed when deplaning. It is ridiculous. Nothing is so important that you can't be without it for a coupla hours.
Wouldn't it be nice if the only things allowed on board was a regular-sized purse for the women and a regular-sized briefcase for the men..Imagine! Get on board, find your seat, sit down and put your item under the seat in front of you. WOW! What a concept.

I have had several lost or damaged bags that were checked on a flight. I now carry two bags with me on board, a computer in a briefcase and a 7x14x21 carry on. I get to the check in line early, wear slip on shoes and no clothes with metal fasteners. All change, keys, my watch and pocket debris are slipped into a plastic bag which I put in a pocket of my carry on while in the security line. And I am very greatfull I don't have to rush to wait in order to pick up bags at the luggage carousel. I cannot imagine having to wait even longer down there to see IF my luggage made it or if it made it without damage.That would even be more compounded if all the overhead luggage was sitting down there too.

The carry on luggage issue has been going on log before 911 and tighter security. I agree that there is nothing more frustrating than waiting on a 90 degree jet way because some 90 pound chick has carried on what seems to be all of her household goods and has to get help to get it up in the overhead.

Airport security is a joke anyway. After I found a loaded Glock 9mm in a rental car, I walked into the airport with pistol in hand without anyone in security questioning me. I had to notify security, they did not come to me.(Remember,there are cameras everywhere in an airport!)
