Hamsters can become friendly with their owners, but it takes some time to do, and they tend to be attitudinal.
If you're thinking about a small pet, gunea pigs and rats make better pets than hamsters.
Guinea pigs act like little dogs wonce they get used to you but they do take quite a bit of work to take care of and they need a lot of room.
Rats, are easier to take care of. They don't need too much room, but the more room you can give them, the better off they are(just like hamsters). Rats can easily learn tricks, like potty training. And you can keep more than one in a cage together(as long as they are the same sex). Do some research on all of them and go to a pet store or breeder and handle all of them before you decide. Which pet is better is really up to you...

They aren't as easy to look after as one might think. Alot of people get these pets for children, but when the novelty wheres off who is going to clean the hamster out, they do get quite smelly. obviously need constant fresh water and handling to keep them friendly. Also do remember if they have a squeaky wheel in the cage they will keep you up all night. Also their teeth constantly grow and appropraite chews must be put in the cage for them to gnaw them down.
People should be aware that they are like any other pet and not an easy answer.

they are wonder full house and minature pets i think you should get a pair of hamsters actually i am having a pair of syrian hamsters it is simply superb you better do that

Good pet for kids and adults alike the only problem with them is cleaning out their cage and making sure they get enough excercise the cage thing is the worst but overall they are adorable pets

hamster can grow to be very loyal pets.but it takes time to bond,you have to start when the hamster is a baby,or as soon as you get your hamsters.Hamsters are FUN,Loyal,FUNNy and Adorable.

i love hamsters! they're like little puff balls when they are sleeping. and they are only smelly when you dont clean their cage, so if they smell bad its your fault! but yeah, hamsters make great pets!

i love hamsters. i have one and she doesn't make a mess. she doesn't smell. The only thing i don't like is when you hold her in te first month of getting her she lets out seeds in ur hand. They also pee and poop in ur hand. i just love her
