Having taught in Texas for many years I have never heard students refer to math class as "maths". But on Yahoo Answers I see it in questions almost everyday. In what part of the country is this expression used?

"Maths" classes are for those students who attend regular math class on grade level, and a remedial math class because they did not perform well enough on their state's standardized test, which is required by many schools to ensure growth.

Thus they have several math classes or MATHs.

These students are identifying themselves as not very good in math and English at the same time.

Good Luck....

It's because you live in texas. Maths are used over most of the english speaking world, but texas is in a world of it's own.
