Are electric guitars heavier than acoustic ones?

As a general rule, yes because of most electric guitars being made of solid wood and having solid bodies. There are blues style hollow bodied electrics too. However, there are also Electric acoustics out there. I have one and it is no heavier than the standard acoustic guitar... In a hollow bodied electric the electronics are not very heavy.

Yes they are, they're solid body and acoustic are hollow. A typical electric solid body weighs 7 - 8 pounds and an acoustic a pound or two lighter, although the electric feels heavier being more compact.

Yes, they would be since an electric guitar is made of solid wood. While an acoustic is also made of wood, it is hollow and therefore would be lighter.

yeah cuz acoustic guitars are hollow inside and electric guitars are not. i have an acoustic gutiar and my friend has an electric and we compared them. Hers was heavier. :)

If you mean heavy as in weight than generally yes but there might be some exceptions . . . If you mean heavy as in type of music it depends on the distortion you put on the electric

when it comes to solid and hollow, not all electrics are solid... you can get hollow body electric guitars
