I use DVD Decrypter to get the DVD onto my computer, then AutoGK to convert the files. Both are freeware and very easy to use.

you have to use a two step method to even get close. first use dvd shrink to rip, choose re-author to get it down to main movie, no menu, no extras.clean your audio to stereo, 5.1,which ever you prefer. get rid of your subtitle (closed caption). put this on your hard drive, it will be about 3 to 4 gigs. go to filehippo.com, audio tools, more, scroll down to rat dvd, and download. it will take about 1 to 2 hours to recopy this to rat format. i've tried it and what you get is a very small size output,(about 4x4 inch) and it's not worth the hassle. and it's still about a gig in size.

on Mac OSX I use Handbrake, there is a windows version, though I cannot testify to its abilities
