Under the Constitution... The president can leave office in the following ways (most covered under 25th amendment):

1) Death
2) Resignation
3) Impeachment
4) Removal by his Cabinet (for incapacitation).

If President Bush left office, VP Cheney would assume the office... he would then appoint a VP... therefor Nancy would just stay Speaker.

USE COMMON SENSE !!

The president cannot veto himself. That makes no sense. The president and VP can resign, which would put Pelosi in the WH under the 25th Amendment. But I don't see that ever happening, do you?

The word is Resign. They could both resign. But I think that would be a terribly destabilizing move and not one I'd like to see.

They could resign and let her take over, but why on earth would they? That would be like handing Afghanistan back to the Taliban!
