Can we do away with politicians and relegious figureheads?

Question

These are the people who get paid to be corrupt,wage wars, wreck lives and destroy peace in general.
Do you think planet earth will get past this phase..to a system where the likes/dislikes of all men will influence any decision concerning them?
For example: Whether or not abortion is legal will still be decided by vote..except that these votes will be accounted direct from the voter to a transparent executive machinery...without any so called "Politicians" in between. I hope you understand...what i'm trying to convey!

Unlike one of your responders I do NOT need some artificial figurehead to tell me what is right and wrong. Although I am not a religious man I do believe in a God and that there are absolute rights and wrongs. If our pols and religious leaders were honest, decent people I would be all for them but look at the warped, cruel teachings that come out of the search for personal power which is all that most of these people care about. Nature still knows best.

This is interesting, but very altruistic. People NEED some hierarchy of authority and accountability or everything will degenerate into complete anarchy and chaos. Look at African regions where everything is run by warlords. Without a government system, it simply becomes a state where the strong rule over the weak.
