My daughter has been getting red patches in the folds of her skin: behind the knees, in the elbows, and on the neck. Sometimes its dry and other times its sweety. I have been told by several people that this is from a lack of sun. Have you heard of this? Dealt with it? and if so, What should I do to get rid of it?

I doubt this is from lack of sun since babies are supposed to limit their sun exposure (how old is your daughter). It could just be a rash from those areas being moist and sweaty. If those areas are damp you could try putting baby powder in there often to keep them dry - this should help clear up the rash. If it continues you might want to check with your pediatrician.

Or it could be psoriasis. I have a mild case of psoriasis that was diagnosed by a doctor many years ago. He informed me at the time that there were some over-the-counter products I could use to relieve the symptoms but that the cause of psoriasis was unknown and there was no cure.

But then several years ago, my ex-wife found an article on the Internet which claimed that sugar was perhaps a cause of psoriasis. I stopped eating sugar and the psoriasis cleared up in a couple of days.

This is an ongoing experiment for me since I never fully gave up sugar. I love cookies, ice cream, chocolate cake and apple pie. I will go weeks at a time without eating any sugar at all and then I'll have a couple of cookies or something. If that is all that I have and I immediately drop sugar from my diet again, no psoriasis will appear. But if I have sugar for several days in a row, the psoriasis returns.

It is more likely a form of eczema or maybe she needs more frequent bathing and thorough drying in those areas. Some people naturally sweat more than others. I would go and have the doctor check it out. If it is eczema the earlier you treat it the less painful it will be and it can also be a 'sign' that your child has allergies and/or will develop asthma.

desitin.
it's just a prickly heat rash kind of thing; my daughter gets it in the elbow and behind the knee all the time.
i just put desitin on at night when i notice it and it's gone by the morning.

It sounds like eczema to me. You would need to try using a perfume and dye free lotion like aquaphor or eucerin. If that doesn't work try 1%hydrocortisone cream, just not to the face w/ the hydrocortisone cream. If that doesn't work a perscription cream may be necessary.
