my 99 firebird has service engine soon light on and sucks alot of gas and has lost power. New spark plugs didnt fix it and I noticed on old plugs that 2 looked less burnt than the rest.my car wasnt properly repaired when left front fender was damaged years ago so the computer will not read codes. Most of the time I can detect where my car is sick and needs attention but when it comes to pumps and injectors I'm lost.. Is it a fuel injector problem that may be the blame or maybe fuel pump? I replaced cata con. wks ago, new plugs, new coils so now what? Never used fuel inj cleaner but thinking it may be ok? The car has 126k on it.

It sounds like your injectors are dirty, or have carbon deposits on the tips. That will make the spray pattern go nuts! You may need to check the fuel filter as well. Take your car to a shop where they can check your fuel pressure, injector pulse width, and clean your injectors. I'd think about replacing that computer as well, it'll save you trouble down the road.
Readers Digest version: Fuel injection Systems
You have: high pressure fuel pump, filter, injector fuel rails, fuel pressure regulator, and return line to gas tank. Computer controls fuel pump, injector pulse width (time injector actually fires),and adjustments based on engine load factors for injector timing, and pulse width. Fuel not used by injectors is returned to fuel tank via return line.
Good luck, and hope this helps!

1st off, you have several problems with your car. You have fuel problems and computer problems.

2nd the jerk about the chips is outta here. In these newer model computers if you "FOOL" around with the PCM(powertrain control module) you will void any warranty you think you might have. Plus they started in 1996 to have OBDII computers which are more sophisticated and when they go, need replaced.

3rd, take your car to a shop that does a fuel injector service. It will run about $100.00 but they will also tell you which injectors are good and bad, if any, and be able to do a proper diagnostics on your car for any problems.

Good luck and hope this helps.

If injector doesn't spray a fine mist, you can get engine miss, hesitation type problems. Try Chevron gas, has Techron additive in it. Also you can buy a bottle of Techron additve, but be sure to follow directions on the bottle. Don't OD your engine with the stuff! Also, if it were my car I was going to keep for a while, I would find out why the codes can't be read. If there is a stored code, that is why the light is on.

When I had a fuel injector problem on my car I had to hold the gas peddle to the floor just to get it to start. When it would start and I would try to put it in gear it would die because it wasn't getting the gas it need to run in gear. I guess it would kind of act like the car was out of gas.

i think its about time to put some injector cleaner in it dont you think.dirty injectors will make your car hard to start, coughing, miss, jumping, loss of power and a whole lot of other problems, and if they get too bad, your car wont even start.
