How do I delete my gmail?

I would like to get rid of my entire old gmail, not just erase the inbox.

Log into the account by going to:

https://www.google.com/accounts/

Click the "Edit" link next to "My Services".

Under the "Close Account" section, click the "Close account and delete
all services and info associated with it" link and follow the
instructions.
