i am planning to go to manali with my family in the summer holidays.please guide me regarding the best means of transportation to reach there comfortably.someone had told me that i will have to go to delhi and then there is a flight operator from there who operates delhi to bhuntar route and bhuntar is approx 50 kms from manali.but i think the air travel is very expensive and at the same time not feasible as it is a very small plane.can somebody tell me whether i can directly reach chandigarh by rail from mumbai?which are the best connecting trains from mumbai to chandigarh?and after reaching chandigarh can i hire a taxi from there?how much time does it take in a taxi from chandigarh to manali and how much does it cost for one way?secondly i have also heard about a railway station called jogindernagar on the narrow guage,but am not sure how to reach jogindernagar and from jogindernagar,how to reach manali?please guide me thoroughly as i am travelling for the first time to manali.

You own information in bits and pieces for the route other than via Delhi is confusing and messy.
The best option from Mumbai to Manali is via Delhi. Your question indicates that you know the things upto Delhi. From Delhi, Manali is connected most comfortably by road and air. Direct coaches and Cabs operate from Delhi to suit a budget, requirements and comforts. You can travel on coaches reliably either from ISBT Kashmere Gate or at Chander Lok Building, opposite Imperial Hotel, Janpath, Connaught Place, New Delhi. Many Himachal Pradesh Tourism specialist operators operate from this building facilitating journey by all types of coaches and cabs, accommodations at tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh and other local logistics.
By air, Jagson Airlines operates from Delhi to Kullu - which is about 40 Kms from Manali. Check their website at http://www.jagsonairline.com/ for flights and fares etc. From Kullu, plenty of local modes of transportation can take you to Manali in about 80-90 minutes.
Forget all other routes unless you have something to do there.
