i agree, it sells. And we all know the money is what they're after in the first place. Also, they may seem to think that once one steps it up, then they have to follow. Its almost like a highschool popularity contest. If one does something, the other has to do it better. ^^

We've become a society that devours sensationalism. We want radical, in your face, makes you gasp sorts of media interaction. We want these things because we are numb to subtleties.
One hopeful thing, is that making the radical and upsetting mainstream, to the point of being overdone... is that creating something of beauty and class will be the underground movement and the writers, directors and producers who wish to set themselves apart will work in that milieu. The praise will pour in and rightly so, and we'll have a chance to see these wonderful visions brought to life.
Meanwhile if your dollar and my dollar isn't going to the shock jockeys, they may eventually see their work as the base uninteresting junk that it is.
