In my life I have seen only men commit suicide, ones that I have known over the years. There were like two guys that I went to high school with that I later learned they had killed them selves. Such a waste of their lives. The 2 guys from high school were around 18 years old. Even though it's been some thing like 31 years ago, it still hurts to think about their loss.
Also when I was working there were 4 guys that commited suicide over the span of about 9-16 years, I believe that the majority were over failed relationships. All so very heart breaking. It doesn't matter how many years go by the loss never goes away, they hurt a lot of people when they did what they did. It really is a selfish act!!
I think that people loose sight of the fact that things will get better, that situations can change. They become despondent and think that their life is over. They don't see that people can change their minds and things can again become right. They don't remember that were not always ment to be with certain people. I think that they also forget that they would in time meet some one and they could have a really wonderful life.
Then they also forget to remember there family members/friends/coworkers who are all going to go through a horrible loss. They forget about what it will do to their closest/best friends and how it will tear the heart out of them. They some times have a really hard time adjusting to life with out them. These people live in the moment and don't look any farther ahead than right where they are. If they would only stop and think and remember that their life will be over and there isn't a coming back for them. It isn't a game where you are going to make some one realize some thing and then you can just wake up from what you have done and it will all be better.
The guys that I worked with that committed suicide were really great guys, it's still very painful to think about. We worked at the Federal Prison together, a lot of people there really miss these guys. I don't think we will ever be over their loss. I can not immagine how their families have been able to cope with their loss. All such a terrible loss, just not even right.
I would think more men than women, but women do it as well. It is a horrible waste of life, a horrible waste of the gift you were given.
EDIT...I think that men have a hard time some time reaching out for the help that they need. After all as boy most are taught not to cry, so when they grow up they hold their feeling in and internalize it. Not a good thing to do. It may to them look like a sign of weekness if they do, however it really isn't at all. It is after all human to reach out and get the support/help we all need at times.

I don't know about the causes, but it is a fact that more men commit suicide overall. Obviously an ended relationship is painful and some people feel as though they have no way out and that the pain will never subside.

Women commit suicide more often than men I believe.
The reason they commit suicide is purely selfish. It is the intention of hurting the one they are angry at. Most figure they will be saved prior to death.
Some don't realize its a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Do some research, there are probably stats out there. Nobody is worth ending one's life over. It's sad that there are those who wrap their whole being up in a relationship with someone else so that when it ends, they have no life of their own and don't know how to go on. *shakes head*
That's not love...that's a mental illness.

I did few times with myself with hard up relationship.. I know it painful when you lose your loved one and who doesn't love you anymore... thing have changed... you have to learn your mistake whatever it take.. suicide is not the answer to anybody... live your life and be happy.. remember life is too short.... you have friends and family that love you dearly... always be there for you

Even though I've experienced rejection too, I am going to say no. The guy should not be arrested or jailed if all he did was reject her. She should have had the guts to accept the guy's rejection as his personal choice and moved on with her own life. If she does that she will at least have his respect even if she couldn't win his love.

Men do it more often. it is hard for men since they can't express their feelings openly like women or cry for days on their friends arm. They just had the feeling that they are worthless without their partner.
