My friends mom has her own buissness and wants me and my friend to be in her commericial. i have been acting for 5 years in local theatres. could this possibly open new doors for me?

Absolutely. Anything that gets your face out in public where people can see it will help you build a career. Always make sure you get a copy of your commercial, either on DVD or on broadcast-quality Beta, so you can add it to your acting reel.
