NO! And not because I am deeply religious. I believe that religion keeps the masses in check. I liken your question to say, 'Could the world be better without government?' Without some sort of rule we would all kill each other. It is definitely not a world I would want to live in.

I think the real problem is that everyone has a different concept of God. At the present time, many wars are being, or have been fought, in the name of God. So life would be better in some ways without God- however, if there were no God, then we would be in a situation where individual power was the supreme law and it would be a case of survival of the fittest. Since I am not the fittest, life would not be better for me ;)
Perhaps life would be fairer...
Or maybe our concept of God is just too limited...

If you look at all the wars, carnage, hatred, murder, rape, looting and pillage, at all the torture, all the grief all the theft of money, talent and service for which organized religion is responsible and which claims to represent god, then the answer is we'd be better off without the god concept. Trouble is, you can't get the toothpaste back in the tube. Once the god concept is launched there is no getting it back

The warm fuzzy needs that some express wit regard to religion wold be expressed in other ways, such as art, deeper appreciation of nature, or greater acts of kindness towards ones fellow man.

The current war against terrorism that has cost 3200 American lives and 150,000 Iraqi and Afghan lives is a war caused by religions intolerance on the part a sect of religious fanatics whose mission in life to to do "god's will" by killing people.

If that's god's will, then count me in the company of Huckleberry Finn who, when thinking about the cruelty of god and church said "I guess I'll just have to go to hell."

Its one of those damned if you do and damned if you dont situations. Ie: Yes and No.

No: Religion gives people meaning and direction in theirs lives. It also installs good beliefs ie, do unto others. There is also the fear of God. If I am a good person I will go to heaven etc. If there was no God/religion the world would be chaotic. Why should I do the right thing? Its not like I am going to hell?

Yes: Although some of the above points are great for people who believe in god/religion, there are those who go too far.
People become so obsessed with their belief that they are so willing to push it on others that discrimination and difference of opinion can and has caused major conflict. What do you think most wars are over? 2 things. 1 - Power and 2 - Religion.

I do not believe in God, but I do believe in myself. All I can do is concentrate on living my life as a good person and hopefully my caring and considerate nature will pass onto others.

Whether there is a god or not , the world will be in a turmoil only
The concept of god had not made any real improvement to the human being's state of mental health . All good things will start only from the individuals . If an individual really wants to be a real good human being he will become one , provided he get rid of all philosophys and preachings he had already dumbed in his mind .
We must spread love and peace and must adopt it ourself
Why not today itself ?
It will be tough in the beginning but will give a result in time .So get going ..

I am spiritual, but I don't believe there is an omnipresent god up there controlling things and deciding who goes to heaven and hell. I believe that the concept of god was created by man to help them deal with the hardships of life. My whole family is pretty much atheist, so I am proof of what happens when you aren't brainwashed from birth to believe in the bible, god, and all that stuff. Yes, there are great life lessons and stories in the bible - but that's what they are - fables and tales (with historical facts sprinkled throughout). What is good about being raised this way is that I am open to all different kinds of spirituality and I don't believe any one religion as "the truth." Perhaps I will "find God" someday, as many people do when faced with adversity.

if there were ppl that were somewhat normal and would be ok knowing that there is no more to life after dying, then yes, the world could live better without the concept of god. But, since there are many Jezuz and God freaks.. then sad to say, but i doubt the world would live better without the concept of god. Many ppl have to feel like humans are "special" and that we are going to heavan to live for eternity after we die. They need to feel like there is something more to life than just making a living and then dying. Sad to say... thats why i think so many ppl believe in god... so that they can feel secure and happy becuz they are going to "heavan".

to answer ur q... no.. sadly.. I think the world would be worse without concept of god. many ppl would get all depressed and sad becuz there is really nothing to life after u die. and people having weak minds, would prob. lose control and do horrible things.

No, it will only live in worse condition. Not because god takes care of the world, but people will not have anyone or anything else to hang on to when there is no hope, avoiding ourselves ending our lives and others lives when we see no hope. Or one to blame, when something goes wrong and continue go on with other things. The concept of god only brings peace to mind and hope for another fresh beginning and peace among people.

During 1800s, Anthropologists had a problem as to how
to classify human beings. One researcher proposed the
expression "intelligent animal". After advanced studies
on monkeys, it was dropped. Another researcher proposed
"tool using animal". After observing some animals
making wooden tools and sharpening them with knife like
stones, it was dropped. Another researcher proposed
"weapon using animal". A decade ago, a rare film was
shot in African forests. One short monkey was hit very
badly by a big monkey. The short monkey prepared a
wooden knife using stones and hid it on the top of a
tree. After some days, when the big monkey came to
attack the short monkey, it ran up to the tree for the
weapon it has hid and killed the big monkey. The one
thing that the anthropologists found with any group of
human beings, even if they did not have contacts with
the out side world for thousands of years, is
spirituality with some form of religion. So, man is a
"spiritual animal" if you want to call him that way.

The Upanishads say that "Manush" (human) was so named
because he has "Manas" a mind higher than that of the
animals which realises the divinity in creation. It was
present since the creation of human beings. Religion is
the characteristic feature of most of the human beings.
It is as eternal and and as unchanging as the Almighty.
Disbelief by a few will not affect it.

I believe people can live without believeing in god. i'm not religious at all! ..and look at me!..i live everyday and am enjoying it, without having to believe in a god.
Things would bea little different I suppose.. infact... a lot would be different. but i do believe that people might still enjoy living without the concept of god.. it isnt gonna change the fact that flowers smell nice:) and the sky is blue and infinite.. and the oceans gleam with blue pride:D
