I loved my old 1979 Honda XR500. Now I have a BMW GS1000 but it is way too heavy to really do the type of things the XR did. So I'm thinking of getting another enduro to use in the hills. I would prefer to spend under $4K. What kind of used bike should I get?

if you liked the XR you will like the new line of CRF's, WR's and XR's.
it just depends on what kind of machine you want.
you can pick up a 2000 xr 600 for aroung 2000 bucks.....

mid to late 90's XR 400's or 650's will put a smile on your face! Price fits the budget you mentioned, are light and run great.

I think the WR will cost more than your willing to spend, the CRF is a race bike and will have to spend more time maintaining it. I ride a 94 KLX 650. It is heavier than the XR and harder to find aftermarket parts than the XR.

I would go with the Kawasaki KE 100. Awesome power for hill climbing and great street power.

stick with the xr 400,or 650. they take a lot of abuse and don't need a lot of looking after, plenty of parts around for good cheap price

I have a KLR650 and I love it. It does have a high ride height so if you aren't that tall, you may want to lower it. Lowering kits are readily available.
