RE:
Increasing Signal Strength of 2WIRE Modem Router?
I have a 2WIRE modem and router(its a combo) at home but as i use the laptop which is one floor lower, the signal strength is extremely weak or even unable to detect at times. How can i increase the signal strength without having to move the modem or my notebook?

The problem may be one of interference. There are things that you can do to fix interference problems:
Download netstumber and run it on your laptop to see if there are other WiFi networks in the area on the same channel as yours. You can download it for free from http://www.stumbler.net. Once netstumbler lists all the WiFi networks in the area, see which channel they are using and then switch your 2wire combo box to use a channel as far away from the other networks as possible.
Another source of interference is cordless phones that use the 2.4GHz frequency range. Unplug the base station and disconnect the battery in the hand set and buy a new cordless phone that uses the DECT frequency spectrum (1.9GHz range).
Finally, if you have Bluetooth enabled products on which you aren't using the Bluetooth feature, make sure you disable the Bluetooth radio on the device. Bluetooth uses a frequency range close to the WiFi frequency range and may cause some intermod interference.
Good luck!

I dont think the 2Wire has an external antenna connector, if it did you could just add one.
One option is to get a wireless access point which does have an external antenna and just connect it to your 2Wire then disable the wireless that is inside the 2Wire.
Or you can get a "wireless range extender" and place it somewhere where it sees the 2Wire and delivers the signal to your laptops location. (Best to get a better AP though.)
Wish there was a quick fix but there simply is no way to get more out unless there is away to get more out. :)
