If Benny is married (he married for money) why did he go out with Mimi? Didnt he have a wife?

Benny dated Mimi prior to getting married (back when he lived with Mark and Roger). It does not indicate for sure that they were having a sexual relationship after Mimi broke up with Roger, he may have been just helping out an old friend. Also, it does not indicate positively that he only married for money. But, even if he did marry for money, and even if he was having a romantic relationship with Mimi after she left Roger, it wouldn't have been the first time a person dated while married. :)
Oh and PS....I LOVE that movie!
