which is cheaper? a dach hund or a chihuahua? im debating on thoes two...

From the cost standpoint the chihuahua. Its small.Therefore it eats less. And they have Vet bills.

With a Dachshund you will get higher vet bills because their long body creates back and hip problems.

However any small dog can be more than a handful, relatively needs smaller space (e.g. apartments), and eat a lot less than large dogs. Also from the cost standpoint what should be a better question is value. Is this investment in a companion animal match my expectations.

You might also want to consider another breed altogether. Dachshunds and Chihuahuas can be very finicky with personality issues. But from what you have written you have allergy issues so that is a consideration.

It would be better to compare them with a Bichon Frise. Compare.

So what would fit your needs better? Its not just flat cost. Think of value first. Some people like Dachshunds, or Chihuahua. I think though you'd much prefer the latter. You don't sound like a Chihuahua person in your debate.

Well, you should adopt one from a breeder or a pound because at the pet stores they don't treat them right. I suggest looking around your town to find a breeder or pound. If you can't find anyone, then go to petfinder.com they have dogs for about $200-$600 or whatever it is for the dogs that you like. They have them any age at good prices. Good luck!
