It's a great film. Well worth the 'hassle' of reading the subtitles. A truly adult fairytale that was surely robbed of the best foreign film oscar this year.
One word of warning though. Think again if you're expecting a fun fantasy film. It's a lot more dark then I was expecting and some real brutally graphic violence too. Still, if you don't mind that you're in for a treat...subtitles and all. Course you could avoid of that hassle and just learn Spanish.

Pan's Labyrinth is a 2006 three-time Academy Award-winning Spanish language film written and directed by Mexican film-maker Guillermo del Toro. Its original Spanish title is El laberinto del fauno, which refers to the faun of Roman mythology and directly translates to The Labyrinth of the Faun; the English title refers to the faun-like Greek god Pan, though the faun in the film never goes by this name.
The film, which garnered several Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations, had its premiere in the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, and was released in the United Kingdom on November 24, 2006. In the United States and Canada, it was given a limited release on December 29, 2006, with the nationwide release on January 19, 2007.[2]
Yes it is worth reading and watching!

complete letdown. got it for the weekend expecting a fantasy extravaganza from the hellboy director but uninspired acting. the kid was pathetic even worse than the narnia cast! special effects dismal, scenery depressing and the subtitles a pain in the rear. dont bother buying rent if you have a spare £3 that cant be used on something more exciting like weetabix

It is phenomenal - seeing it moved me in a way that movies of the last couple of years just have not. It makes you question your belief of fairy tales, and whether or not the world is inherently good or evil. What is true and what is fictionalized. I love leaving a movie thinking. I recommend this film to everyone. It truly is a beautiful story of love - and the visuals are ridiculous.

Yes, it's very good. It's quite different than anything you've ever seen. The subtitles don't really get distracting.
