The main cause of drain clogs is from grease and oils. This comes from washing dishes and hair and is even in your soap. The grease coats the inside of the pipes. Then any other solid that is run down the drain get trapped in the oil "glue". It builds up until it clogs the pipe. Hot water may soften the grease/oil and allow a temporary solution. It will cool off before clearing all the drain line. Using an enzyme drain cleaner is the best solution. Enzyme cleaners contain bacteria, much like a septic tank, that cling to organic matter and eat it. Enzyme cleaners are safe for all piping systems, including septic tanks, and do not contain any caustic substances.

sure if it's grease. It will melt it then when it cools off it will re-settle further on down the line as the water cools. The new clog will be happy in his new surroundings tho.

If it just a grease clog that is not very big it can help melt/breakup the grease. Usually you will need something with a little more power.

yes if it is hot enough it will melt the clog.
But if you use yeast the clog will be removed and the pipes cleaned at the same time.
